LACAN by Marcus Pound

Jacques-Marie Émile Lacan

13/04/1901 - 9/09/1981

Lacan was a French doctor who studied neurology, psychiatry and became a Psychoanalyst.

His work calls for a return to Freud. He communicated his ideas through seminars and conferences which were published in 1966. His work is found in his 26 seminars called Le Séminaire published from 1973, under the direction of his son in law, Jacques-Alain Miller.

The field of action of psychoanalysis then lies in speech, where the unconscious manifests itself through slips, oversights, jokes and stories of dreams, finally, those phenomena which Lacan names like "formations of the unconscious." In this respect the Lacanian aphorism "the unconscious is structured like a language".

For some mysterious reason the psychology and counselling students do not receive any information about him in the universities in Australia.
